Aides of Senators and members of the House of Representatives on Wednesday protested the non-payment of their September salaries and allowances by the National Assembly management.
The protesters who were not carrying placards converged at the lobby wing of the National Assembly Complex where both Senators and Reps pass to their chambers.
It was gathered that the Senate President, Bukola Saraki saw the protesters while passing through the lobby of the Senate wing. He was on his to the chamber for the day's sitting.
Our correspondent reports that the aides protested for about 20 minutes at a time when the lawmakers were going to their chambers.
Speaking to our correspondent, one of the protesters, Barrister Taye Olabanjo said they staged the protest over their welfare.
“We are protesting over the non-payment of our September salary and 28 days Duty Tour Allowance (DTA). The DTA was captured in last year's budget but when we approached the National Assembly management, they said have paid it to our bosses.
“But when we met our bosses, they denied receiving it. It is unfortunate that they are doing this to us. We have no option than to protest it in this peaceful manner, "he said.
